Details of all side effects, including rare side effects to be aware of, are listed in the patient information leaflet (PIL). When completing your medical questionnaire, it is very important that you answer the questions truthfully. This is to ensure your doctor has a full picture of your medical history before prescribing. When prepared and taken correctly, rehydration salts should take 3-4 hours to improve dehydration. Although they can start to work faster. It is important to mix each sachet with the correct amount of water, as described in the patient information leaflet.

Adults should take 1 or 2 sachets dissolved in water following each episode of diarrhoea. Always read the patient information leaflet for correct dosing and how to mix the sachets properly.

Although you do not need a prescription to buy Dioralyte rehydration sachets, it is included in the travel pack as it is a very useful medicine for treating the symptoms of travellers’ diarrhoea and vomiting.

With each episode of diarrhoea, we lose fluids and electrolytes which can lead to dehydration. It is therefore important to drink lots of fluids when suffering from travellers’ diarrhoea. Over the counter medicines such as loperamide (Imodium™) and Dioralyte rehydration sachets are also very good at treating the symptoms of diarrhoea. Both are included in all Anytime Doctor Travel Packs®. Although the pack also includes the antibiotic azithromycin for travellers’ diarrhoea, you should only use antibiotics if essential and only for bacterial causes of diarrhoea.
