Trimethoprim belongs to a group of medicines known as antibacterials. They are used to kill a wide range of bacteria that cause infections in your body, primarily urinary and respiratory tract infections. This medicine can also be used for prevention of recurrent urinary tract infections.

Whilst some cystitis infections may clear up of their own accord, you can ease symptoms by drinking 2-3 litres a day to flush the bladder and by taking cranberry tablets which are available from your pharmacy. Nitrofurantoin is the first line treatment antibiotic available.
Do not take medicines after the expiry date stamped on the pack. Keep all medicines out of the reach and sight of children.
