Description

Zineryt contains the active ingredient erythromycin with zinc acetate. It belongs to the group of antibiotics for treatment of acne vulgaris, often referred to as pimples or spots. These medicines are used to reduce the growth of bacteria which cause acne.

Suitability

Do not use Zineryt:

  • if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to erythromycin with zinc acetate or any of the other ingredients listed in the patient information leaflet
  • if you are allergic to antibiotics of the macrolide group
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Always ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine. You may use Zineryt if you are pregnant. You may breastfeed during treatment with Zineryt but do not use this medicine on the area of your chest.

Important Interactions

You must tell your doctor if you are taking, have recently taken or might take other medicines.

Side Effects
  • temporary stinging or slight redness of the skin

May rarely cause allergic reactions - symptoms may include rash, itching, swelling of the mouth, face and lips or tongue and difficulty breathing. Please contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of these side effects.

Alternatives

Further products available include Differin (topical retinoid) and Skinoren (azelaic acid). Combination treatment Duac Once Daily (with topical antibiotic plus benzoyl peroxide) or Epiduo (with topical retinoid plus benzoyl peroxide) are available to step up to if other treatments have not been successful.

Other treatments for more severe acne are also available such as Roaccutane (isotretinoin) and Dianette (a contraceptive pill for women only). These treatments need to be monitored closely and can only be prescribed by your GP or specialist dermatologist.

Looking after your medicine

Do not take medicines after the expiry date stamped on the pack. Keep all medicines out of the reach and sight of children.
